In Retrospect 10 for Windows and Retrospect 12 for Mac, the backup of the configuration file—Config77.bak on Windows and Config80.bak on Mac—was replaced with a new XML formatted file named configs.xml.
This new format enables Retrospect to quickly write out changes to the core set of configurations and preferences. These include sources with all clients and subvolumes/favorite folders, backup sets/media sets, scripts, selectors/rules, preferences, Exchange and SQL volumes, and network settings. While this format is XML-based, it is not intended to be edited by customers. It also doesn’t include all of the information stored in the configuration file, including database history, devices, VMware volumes, and Linux client volumes; these need to be recreated where possible.
File Locations
These new files are located in same location as their predecessors:
- Windows – C:\ProgramData\Retrospect\configs.xml
- Mac – /Library/Application Support/Retrospect/configs.xml
Usage
If you encounter problems with Retrospect, you can revert to these backup configs by following these instructions:
- Quit Retrospect
- Move the configs file (Configs77.dat on Windows and Configs80.dat on Mac) to a different location.
- Launch Retrospect. With the configs file missing, Retrospect will fall back on the backup configs.
