Microsoft Exchange and SQL
Using another backup tool (like the SQL Enterprise Manager backup tool) will leave the Retrospect log backup sequence incomplete. You should be able to restore your full backup and logs up to the point of the missing log file.
If you would like to perform backups of SQL using multiple backup utilities (or multiple copies of Retrospect), always do a "full" backup.
You may also see this error when attempting to backup the SQL Master database. When doing a differential backup/log backup/log backup no truncate of the master database in SQL, users may encounter the following error: "File "master": can’t read, error -1004 (Database Backup/Restore error)"
From: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/70/proddocs/admincmp/75517c03.mspx
Note Only full database backups of master can be created.
To backup the master database, Retrospect must perform a full backup.
