There are a number of circumstances where grooming appears to display incorrect numbers:

Grooming reports larger number than set decreased by:

This is caused by grooming removing files from backups that aren’t considered active.

Grooming grooms out files but file count remains the same:

This is caused by Retrospect reporting that it grooms out information relating to individual backups but not their file contents. The file count doesn’t change because no user files were removed.
