This article applies to you if you are finding that your Bare Metal Restore using the Retrospect Emergency Recovery Disc is failing with the following entry in your operations log:
MapError: unknown Windows error 1,630
This error is the result of restoring a UEFI system to a machine that either does not support EFI, or has the UEFI firmware disabled from within the BIOS.
To resolve this error:
- Verify that the machine you are restoring to supports UEFI boot. (If it does not, this is an unsupported restore scenario)
- Check your current boot settings in your BIOS to make sure that UEFI is enabled, and Legacy boot is disabled. These options are typically found in System Configuration or Boot settings menus.
- Reboot your system, and start the DR restore again.
